The Mezzanine Company is privileged to work with many large successful companies as they expand throughout the years. One such company, Colony Hardware, is an industry leading tool and hardware supplier growing rapidly across the country. We have worked with Colony Hardware on several large projects, including a mezzanine in Bronx, NY and another in Orange, CT.
Recently, they contacted us again to assist them on designing and providing another storage platform for their expansion in the McCook, Illinois.
Some of the challenges of this project would be:
Working closely with the architect for the project, we came up with a design for an approximately 6,000 square foot structure. The mezzanine would include an L-shaped IBC staircase, in order to provide easy and safe access for their employees, and two overhead safety gates, in order to provide safe access for the loading of materials onto the mezzanine.
The mezzanine would also include a conveyor chute for the easy transportation of boxes from the top of the mezzanine to the ground floor. The structure was custom designed to provide Colony Hardware with an optimal layout for their storage, picking operations with shelving on top (as shown in the pictures), and the conveyor system carrying products to the ground floor.
Once the proposal was accepted, in order to meet the project deadline, we expedited the approval drawings. Then, our project manager made a site visit to Illinois and to make the final design adjustments.
As the shipment date was approaching, we worked closely with Colony Hardware and our installation team to target an ideal installation date. Once the mezzanine was delivered, our installation team got right to work. In order to match the old mezzanine deck with the new mezzanine, Resindek flooring was installed over their existing concrete deck, leaving them with a smooth finished floor.
By coordinating and working together with different trades,The Mezzanine Company was able to expedite the design and installation, in order to meet Colony’s grand opening date.
Note: As of the publishing of this case study, we are also working on two more mezzanines for Colony Hardware at other locations.
