The Mezzanine Company was contacted by Iannella General Contracting Inc., a contracting company based out of New Providence, NJ, with the task of supplying a storage solution for the Summit Fire Department.
The Summit Fire Department was in need of more storage space in one of their facilities for their safety gear and other equipment such as: hoses, lights, helmets, turnout gear and other equipment critical in combating fires. Unfortunately, there was not enough floor space to store all of the needed equipment.
In order to gain extra space in the storage area, we added approximately 150 more square feet by supplying a mezzanine. This u-shaped storage platform ran against a wall on three sides.
Also, as the project progressed, we were asked about providing a complete storage solution and adding shelving units to the system. Working with our partners in the shelving industry, we were able to work out a layout that featured shelving units both on top of and below the platform.
An excellent benefit of getting a complete system rather than piecing separate things together was that we were able to make sure the mezzanine had a column layout that would not hamper access to the shelves in any way.
The flooring for the mezzanine was open bar grating which enables light and dust to pass through. Lastly, the mezzanine included an OSHA regulation stair going to it for easy access and used hand rail and kick plate on all the open sides to make it safe.
Working together with our various industry partners, we were able to coordinate the shipping of the shelving and storage platform so they arrived together and could be installed at the same time, making for a quick and orderly completion of the project.
The Mezzanine Company is proud to have been of service to the men and women of the Summit Fire Department who continually give of themselves to serve others.
