Penske is one of the largest transportation and logistics companies in America and has a global presence. Penske’s rapid growth comes with its own set of challenges one of which was maintaining the 200,000 plus vehicle fleet it now employs.
Penske Truck Rental contacted The Mezzanine Company looking for a way to gain more space in one of its packed maintenance facilities in Jessup, Pennsylvania. Floor space was tight.
Working with Penske, we determined that the best solution to Penske’s space crisis was to add a mezzanine above one of their drive through bays that had been converted into a parts room. This would gain them the most space, in the area most in need. We designed the structure to fill the bay; thereby providing them with an additional 1,036 square feet of storage space.
The mezzanine was designed to have 9’ clearance underneath to provide plenty of space for the shelves and cabinets for their part storage area. For access to the mezzanine, we provided an IBC mezzanine staircase and had it built extra wide (45”) to provide maximum ease of access to the structure, without requiring the additional cost of a second staircase.
We also included a 5’ wide double swing gate in our design to allow for the movement of pallets and other large materials to and from the platform.
We worked closely with our industry partners on this project to coordinate the production of materials and arrange freight as soon as it was completed. We had our installer block out his schedule for the installation, so that he could arrive before the material with lift equipment to unload everything when it arrived. From there, he went right on to the installation, moving the project swiftly from one stage to the next quickly completing the project and alleviating the storage concerns at Penske.
