Pen Company of America

Pen Company of America, a family owned business since 1928,is a full service pen manufacturer that designs, molds, assembles, packs andships over 100 million pens a year directly from their factory in New Jersey. Theywere looking for some additional space in their warehouse to make space forsome new machinery that they purchased due to an acquisition and expansion.

Some of the challenges we had to work around were:

• The mezzanine needed to be positioned against severalwalls with major obstructions
• For code purposes, the mezzanine would needsprinklers installed underneath the deck with limited ceiling height.

The Mezzanine Company worked closely with Pen Company tocome up with a design for a storage platform mezzanine that would serve theirneeds. We proposed an approximate 775 square foot platform. The mezzanineincluded an L-shaped OSHA staircase for employee access.

In order to provide access for a fork lift to load materialson and off the mezzanine, the mezzanine would include a 5’ sliding gate.

To work around some obstructions, the mezzanine had to becustom designed with special column placement and the ‘L’ shaped stairs.

Additionally, we worked closely with their sprinklercontractor to coordinate the inclusion of a sprinkler system beneath themezzanine with low clearances.

Once the mezzanine was out of production, we arranged for aprompt delivery the week preceding the install weekend. The mezzanine wasinstalled as planned, and on time, with minimum interruption to operations.
