Nellis Air Force Base

Located in Las Vegas, NV, Nellis Air Force Base, The "Home of the Fighter Pilot”, is one of the largest fighter bases in the world. Recently, they were looking to make use of the available air space, in their facility, so as to gain some storage space.

Nellis Air Force Base reached out to The Mezzanine Company to help provide a solution. We had recently provided another mezzanine for the base, for a different group, so we had experience at the location.

Since they wanted to store large work crates on top of the mezzanine, they wanted a durable surface that could handle moving these crates around. A concrete floor was requested, so the mezzanine would need to be able to handle supporting that floor type.

Working closely with their contractor, Spectrum Services Group, we provided a design for a ~1,500 square foot custom mezzanine platform.To allow the movement of large items on and off the mezzanine, a large 10’ sliding gate was included in the design.

To handle the concrete floor, the mezzanine was designed to both handle the additional dead load weight of the concrete and the live weight of the storage on top.

In order to fit with the existing area and sloping building roof, an L-shaped stair was utilized and several sections of the mezzanine were cantilevered.

Once the proposal was accepted, we worked with Spectrum Services Group and the manufacturer to finalize the design quickly and get a production slot from the factory that would help meet their deadline. After careful planning and efficient communication between all parties, the mezzanine was delivered and installed. The new mezzanine provided Nellis Air Force Base with the storage space needed in their building.
