Located in Statesville, North Carolina, GMS Racing is “an American professional stock car racing
team that currently competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series.”
GMS Racing was looking to gain some additional storage space to
store parts. Since the building is used for assessing vehicles after races,
they wanted to reserve as much floor space as possible. The logical solution
was to use some of the unused air space in the building.
GMS Racing contacted The Mezzanine Company to provide a mezzanine
solution.
Some of the challenges of the project would be
1.
The mezzanine would need to be positioned
tightly against a wall with obstructions, including an existing building column
2.
To allow for maximum storage of vehicles below,
they would need specific column placement to minimize the amount of space taken
up by the mezzanine on the ground floor
3.
They wanted the ability to easily move oversize
materials on and off of the mezzanine
After reviewing the project requirements, we provided aquote and design for an approximately 1,600 square foot mezzanine. Themezzanine was custom designed with specific column placement to create lanesfor vehicles to fit underneath. Additionally, it was designed to also fitaround all of the wall obstructions. This included a cut out around someexisting HVAC.
To enable themovement of large items on and off the mezzanine, the mezzanine would have twolarge 10’ sliding gates.
Once GMS Racing decided to move forward with the project, since timing was important, we moved quickly to get approval drawings ready fortheir review. Once they were ready, one of our project managers flew down to NCand reviewed the drawings with them in person to make any necessaryadjustments.
Once the mezzanine was out of production, we arranged for aprompt delivery the week preceding the install weekend. The mezzanine wasinstalled as planned, and on time, with minimum interruption to operations.
