Emergent Green Energy, Minneola, KS

Emergent Green Energy is a family owned company based out of Minneola, Kansas.  They specialize in recycling cooking oils and grease by converting it into a renewable fuel in the form of biodiesel.  EGE has partnered with hundreds of local restaurants which it serves by removing their used cooking oils and grease.  It then converts these waste products into biodiesel which it sells locally creating a renewable cycle helping their community.  EGE only started full scale production five years ago but have seen great success.  With that came the need for more storage space, so they contacted The Mezzanine Company looking for a storage solution.

To gain EGE the necessary storage space they needed to relieve the strain on their facilities, we would have to work around several challenges:

First, the storage platform would need to be built up against one of the buildings walls which would require special cutouts to work around the tapered building support columns.

Secondly, the new storage mezzanine needed to match up to an existing structure so that it could be accessed from there.

By working closely with the members of EGE, we designed a roughly 675 square foot platform.  We utilized cutouts around the building columns to get as close to the wall as possible helping to maximize the space gained.

Also, by obtaining precise measurements for the existing structure, we were able to have the new storage platform built to match the same floor height, so you could easily walk from one to the other.

In addition to being able to access it from the existing structure, we included an OSHA regulation mezzanine stair because of the amount of foot traffic needed accessing the storage platform.

Lastly, the mezzanine also included three 5’ wide lift out gates to accommodate the flow of larger materials to and from the storage platform.

EGE chose to install the platform themselves, so we provided them with installation guides and shared with them our knowledge and expertise as well as any tips we have uncovered to help make their installation a success.
