Colony Hardware, Bronx, NY

In 2013, we worked with Colony Hardware todesign and engineer a 16,000 square foot mezzanine at their Orange, Connecticut location.Recently, they contacted us again to assist them on designing and providinganother storage platform for their expansion in the Bronx, New York.

Some of the challengesof this project would be:

1. Theywere looking to gain the most amount of space possible, while staying withinthe limits of what their local building code would allow
2. Theywanted the mezzanine to match up with two existing mezzanine structures in thebuilding
3. Thismezzanine would be installed in an active warehouse and needed to be installedwith minimum interruption to their operations
4. Theyneeded to incorporate a conveyor into the mezzanine to easily move boxes fromthe top of the mezzanine to the ground floor

We started by having our V.P. of project management schedulea site visit to their new location. Using their drawings and our findingsduring the site visit, we came up with a design for an approximately 3,500square foot structure. The mezzanine was designed to maximize their space,while staying within the limits of the building code.

Additionally, the mezzanine was designed to match up withthe existing mezzanine structures in the warehouse, so as to provide seamlessintegration with their existing space. We also provided two IBC staircases inorder to provide easy and safe access for their employees. To help provide safeaccess for the loading of materials on the mezzanine, we provided an overheadsafety gate.

We also provided a conveyor chute for the easytransportation of boxes from the top of the mezzanine to the ground floor. Themezzanine was custom designed to integrate with the conveyor chute.

Once the proposal was accepted, our project manager made numeroussite visits and made the final design adjustments. As the shipment date wasapproaching, we worked closely with Colony Hardware and our installation teamto target an ideal installation date. Once the mezzanine was delivered, ourinstallation team got right to work and installed the mezzanine with minimuminterruption to their operations.
