Bearing and Drive Solutions

BDS is a family of industrial maintenance solutions companies. They stock and supply machinery parts such as bearings, belts, pulleys etc. BDS recently acquired Reading Electric, a local electric motor repair company in Reading, Pa. They wanted to bring some of their BDS type stock into the facility, while maintaining its current motor repair functions.

Since storage space was short at the facility, they decided to look up to gain some additional space. BDS contacted The Mezzanine Company for a solution.

The mezzanine would be added to an existing, active facility, so custom designing the locations of the columns was important in order to work around the existing workspace on the ground floor.

The Mezzanine Company worked closely with BDS to come up with a design for a storage platform mezzanine that would serve their needs. We proposed an approximately 3,000 square foot platform. The mezzanine included (2) straight run OSHA staircases for employee access.

The mezzanine would include a 6’ double swing gate in order to provide access for a fork lift to load materials on and off the mezzanine. To work around some obstructions, the mezzanine was custom designed with special column placement. Most importantly, there was a cantilevered portion in one corner to avoid dropping any columns in front of some existing electrical equipment.

Once the proposal was accepted, approval drawings were created and our project manager made a site visit to make the final design adjustments.

When the mezzanine was out of production, we arranged for a prompt delivery the week preceding the install weekend. The mezzanine was installed as planned, and on time, with minimum interruption to operations.
