Challenge

Marriott International is one of the largest lodgings companies in the world, with over 3,400 locations in nearly 70 different countries. One particular location, the Marriott located in Bethesda, Maryland had a large room in which they needed extra space for a meeting area and an area to serve as an overlook. There was plenty of vertical space, so they thought that a mezzanine might work best.

One major challenge to overcome though was that the location where the steel structure needed to go was underground and was only accessible via a 9’-6” by 5’-6” elevator.  Also, to reach the elevator, none of the standard heavy loading equipment was usable.

Marriott International contacted The Mezzanine Company to help provide a solution that would provide the best use of space, while also being able to get into the underground area.

Solution

The Mezzanine Company designed a custom mezzanine that incorporated the two areas, the meeting area, and the overlook, into one structure. This made the structure 120’ long but only about 8’ wide in most places with several large cut outs resulting in a roughly 2,500 square foot steel structure.  For this structure, we also incorporated a unique paint job to match the color with the customers desired finish look.

Next, to deal with the issues involved with limited access to the area, we spent extra time working to ensure that all the pieces of the structure would fit through these tight corridors and could reach the basement where the steel structure was being constructed.

Also, by working closely with the customer,  our installer, and shipping company, we arranged a Friday delivery and unloaded all of the material by hand. Because of the extra time needed given these special circumstances, the staging of the material took place over the weekend to ensure that we did not disrupt the customer’s flow of operations.

What Our Customers Say...

It is always my intention to do business with companies that put customer service and satisfaction in the forefront. When we needed a mezzanine to expand storage in one of our rooms we looked for a company that we felt could fit the bill and The Mezzanine Company certainly did just that.
